Hi, I’m Gill, founder of DigiDonk. Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about why I started the business.
DigiDonk was born from the belief that nobody should be disadvantaged by digital. Technology should work for you, not make your life harder. My aim is to make technology feel almost invisible to people who don’t want or need to understand how everything works behind the scenes.
My Story
I started life with just one ambition... I never wanted to work in an office! I wanted to be an artist.
Life however had other plans for me. I discovered coding and loved the problem solving side of it. Software engineering gave me a way to combine logic with creativity, and over the next 25+ years I worked in software engineering and consultancy, developing and supporting solutions across the public and private sectors.
The idea for DigiDonk really took shape while I was volunteering as a Digital Support Worker at my local library. I’ve always enjoyed mentoring and helping people, but that experience opened my eyes to just how much of everyday life now depends on technology and how frustrating that can be when technology isn’t your thing.
It made me realise that businesses, organisations and individuals can easily be held back simply because they don’t have the time, confidence or desire to become technology experts and they shouldn’t have to.
DigiDonk is a play on the words 'Digital Donkey', and the concept is simple we aim to lighten the digital load. Whether that means advice, a bit of support or simply getting something done for you, the aim is to free up your time for the things you actually want to be doing.
